How often does a dentist have to renew their license?

i know they have to renew their license whenever they move from one state to another but if they didn't move and been living in the same state do they still have to study and renew their license every 3 years? i heard optometrists have to renew and study every 3 years even if they don't move is that the same rule for dentists?
