Help with baby feeding himself?

He is too old to be on baby food, at least the pureed kind. At minimum he should be eating stage three baby food. He really should be eating whatever the family eats. I had a friend whose daughter was petite, she didn't eat much, so when she did eat her mom would put er or some sort of fat in her food. He doesn't really need a spoon right now, just cut up everything small and let him eat with his hands, by 18 months he should be trying to figure the utensil thing out.
